Helping Colombia’s Tourism Community Amplify its Voice During the Pandemic

Colombia Me Inspira creates a unified communication channel for tourism and the communities that have been hit so hard by the current situation. This work starts from a positive, emotional, and encouraging place, highlighting the resilience of Colombians. It is also a space where you can find information on the latest and most interesting events in the tourism sector in the country.
— Julián Guerrero Orozco, Vice Minister of Tourism, Colombia

We’re proud to partner with Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism and Colombia más Competitiva, to develop #ColombiaMeInspira.

#ColombiaMeInspira is a digital platform that provides the tourism community with:

  • subsidized access to agency-level video production support

  • a user-generated travel content hub, ColombiaMeInspira.com

  • a calendar that consolidates virtual event dates nationwide

  • a go-to source for the travel sector’s latest news and updates

Users include micro-entrepreneurs, local guides, travel operators, and related providers. Many are in remote locations and have limited marketing resources to get back on their feet. The platform allows members to send us raw content via simple online forms and WhatsApp. We produce polished destination videos and publish them to the website and social channels.

Our work on this project includes the technical development of the website platform and database, content production for the website, social channels, and weekly newsletter. Visual and graphic design across all platforms. Editing a series of user-generated content video stories. Development of a seven month digital marketing campaign to grow the newsletter list, social platform followers, and maintain awareness of the website.

A Perfectly Timed Joint Venture

This platform is led by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Colombia + Competitiva (C + C) project, an initiative of the Swiss Embassy in Colombia - Economic Cooperation and Development (SECO). It is facilitated by the Swiss Foundation for Technical Development Cooperation - Swisscontact. Here’s what our partners had to say:

Colombian Vice Minister of Tourism, Julián Guerrero Orozco

The initiative that we managed to create thanks to the Swiss cooperation will be of great support for the entire value chain of the tourism sector during this situation, caused by COVID-19. There you can share travel experiences, innovative ideas, proposals on various topics such as gastronomy, music, adventure or culture and have conversations with leaders and experts on issues related to our industry. In short, it is a space to enrich, share and inspire learning with all the wonderful people in the world of tourism.

Christian Brändli, head of Economic Cooperation and Development (SECO) at the Swiss Embassy

Tourism has great potential in Colombia due to its great biodiversity and cultural richness. We wanted to support this platform so that tourism entrepreneurs from all regions have a space to show how they are adapting to the crisis and how they are preparing for the reactivation of the sector. It is a space to reimagine tourism in Colombia”, explained Christian Brändli, head of Economic Cooperation and Development (SECO) at the Swiss Embassy.

Crowdsourced Ideas and Subsidized Content Production

One of the most valuable features of the platform is the possibility for all those who work in the national tourism industry to access subsidized agency-level video production support. Participants submit proposals via an online form, focusing on either culture, gastronomy, nature, folklore, or adventure travel plans, and what makes their service unique within Colombia. The best proposals are supported by free production of a destination video from our Colombian production company. Edited videos are published on the website, in the newsletter and promoted on the platform’s social networks.
