Ten Things We ❤️ To Film

Our Colombian-based film production house has worked on projects on every continent for a broad range of diverse clients and told stories ranging from birding tourism in Colombia to religious rituals on the River Ganges. Here are the top 10 things we love to film:

Birds

One of our specialties as a storytelling agency is filming birds and producing videos about birds and birding. Our journey in the world of birds began with The Birders, a feature-length documentary and integrated marketing campaign showcasing Colombia as the world's top birding destination. Produced for the Colombian Ministry of Tourism, this campaign included five regional documentary shorts, an original musical score, and an album for Spotify. We additionally negotiated content partnerships with the Audubon Society and Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology and created a broad suite of digital marketing still images and micro-videos.

Since we fell in love with birds while making The Birders, we've produced numerous bird and birding-related stories for clients such as Awake Travel, USAID, the Discovery Channel, PBS, and Cat Footwear's 5-Telly Award-winning campaign The Value of a Wild Heartbeat. We've also launched our in-house YouTube birding series, The Birders Show, and partnered with Kowa Sporting Optics to help make birding more accessible to everyone worldwide.

Cycling

Cycling played a central role in our storytelling agency origin story, and it's been a massive part of our work since WhereNext's founding. Our cycling clients include H&I Adventures, Experience Plus, Pure Colombia, 'Live Slow, Ride Fast,' Ciclismo Classico, Cyclomundo, ExOfficio, and SCOTT Sports.

We've also produced and filmed Colombia's global tourism cycling campaign, made a documentary about Colombian Grand Tour cyclist Esteban Chaves, and directed, produced, and edited Thereabout 3, a feature-length cycling documentary about the Morton brothers. In addition, our cycling-mad video team has filmed two-wheeled adventures from the wild Andes of Colombia and Patagonia to idyllic mountain villages in Tuscany and the Pyrenees.

Coffee

As a storytelling agency born and based in Colombia, we're no strangers to a good cup of coffee, and several of our projects reflect that caffeinated spirit. For example, with our client, Nescafe, we've produced a series of video and photographic assets highlighting their local production partners and charting a journey of discovery for their "Nescafé Professional Coffee Ambassadors" on a visit to Colombia.

On the cutting edge is Bellwether Coffee, a California-based startup that is revolutionizing the coffee supply chain process and empowering people across the globe to sustainably source and roast coffee. For Bellwether, we created a series of multimedia assets showcasing their local partners in Tolima department in the Colombian Central Andes.

Penguins

So technically, penguins are birds (see above), but we thought they deserved to be singled out since we've filmed penguins on two continents for projects with our clients Abercrombie & Kent and World Nomads. Plus, our video team has always enjoyed filming such a charismatic species. In addition, penguins make excellent models, showing up to work every day dressed in a tuxedo!

We first got up close and personal with these comical, flightless birds on the wild coast of Argentine Patagonia, filming Magellanic Penguins with World Nomads and the Global Penguin Society. Then, with our client Abercrombie & Kent, we created a multichannel campaign for their 30th anniversary of Luxury Expedition Cruising in Antarctica. For this campaign, we filmed a tremendous variety of wildlife in the icy vastness of the Frozen Continent. However, the real highlights were our close filming encounters with Adélie and Chinstrap Penguins.

Footwear

Our wheelhouse as a storytelling agency is exploration and adventure, whether we're halfway up a mountain in the Peruvian Andes or exploring the bustling markets of a new city. And one of the most important things you need to explore is a solid pair of shoes. So naturally, we've worked with some of the premier outdoor shoe brands on earth and become experts in producing video and photographic material highlighting the best features of adventure, work, and lifestyle footwear.

With Cat Footwear, we've explored Bogota, Mexico City, and Valencia and produced the award-winning documentary, The Value of a Wild Heartbeat. We've put a range of high-tech outdoor gear through its paces in the Colombian paramo with Columbia Sportswear. As Merrell's Latin American agency, we've created a series of forward-thinking footwear campaigns targeting the Latin American diaspora. Our video team has filmed shoes pounding the pavements of the world's biggest cities and trail running along muddy mountain paths.

Urban Adventures

As much as we love getting out into the wild, our team is just as comfortable filming in urban environments, which include some of the biggest, most beautiful, and historic cities on earth: Kathmandu, Tokyo, Mexico City, Bogota, Mumbai, Lima, Barcelona, New York, Detroit, Dublin, Madrid, Kingston, the list goes on.

We've produced city-based projects about gastronomy, street art, spirituality, technology, community tourism, urban wildlife, and more for clients as diverse as Facebook, World Nomads, Solimar International, the Discovery Channel, Dictador Rum, and ProColombia.

Art

In 2018, we worked on one of our most unique projects: taking over an abandoned rum distillery in the jungles of northern Colombia to turn it into the planet's greatest graffiti museum alongside our client, Dictador Rum. The Dictador Art Masters campaign brought some of the world's top graffiti artists to Colombia to turn an abandoned space into a riot of color and creativity.

The artists we worked with came from all corners of the globe, bringing their creativity and imagination to the distillery. They included Gleo (Colombia), Cranio (Brazil), Nychos (Austria), Faith 47 (South Africa), Daleast (China), TomBobNYC (USA), PixelPancho (Italy), Shue77 (Austria), MadC1 (Germany), Toxicomano (Colombia), Erre (Colombia), Chicadania (Colombia), Pez (Barcelona Spain) and M-City (Poland).

We produced an integrated campaign for Dictador Art Masters, including video and photographic assets, digital marketing, and print media campaigns.

Colombia

Colombia is our storytelling agency's birthplace, and there's nothing we love more than exploring the country's wild destinations in search of adventures and engaging stories. Our team has worked on projects in every one of Colombia's 32 departments, from the chilly heights of the Andes to the forgotten jungles of the eastern Amazon. We've worked with indigenous musicians in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, cowboys in the Eastern Plains, farmers in the Montes de Maria, and native bird guides in the Amazon rainforest and told their stories on video for the world to enjoy.

Our project subject matter ranges from history to natural history, tourism to economic development, and sports to charitable ventures. In addition, our unparalleled knowledge and experience of traveling and filming across Colombia are reflected in our series of location guides.

Food

Another subject that fascinates our storytelling agency is gastronomy. We have worked on a series of international gastronomy projects and filmed some of the world's top chefs.

In Spain, we discovered the gastronomy of Cataluña with Michelin-starred chef Joan Roca and culinary maverick Jordi Herrera for our client, World Nomads. In Lima - the gastronomic capital of South America - we filmed the kitchens of Virgilio Martinez, Gastón Acurio, and Mitsuharu Tsumura. We learned about the unique fusion of culinary cultures that makes Peruvian food special. And we recently produced a series of culinary videos from the kitchens of five more top-class South American chefs - Luz Dary Cogollo of Colombia, Peru's Francesca Ferreyro, Thiago Castanho from Brazil, and for LATAM Airlines, Carolina Bazán from Chile, and Ecuador's Rodrigo Pacheco.

Purpose-Driven Projects

As a Colombia-based storytelling agency, we are proud to give back to our point of origin and leave positive footprints in the country we call home. One of WhereNext's corporate goals is to provide pro bono services to local organizations that do good for Colombian communities. Over the years, we've partnered with the Patrulla Aerea Civil Colombiana (Colombian Civil Air Patrol), FUN Esteban Chaves, and Panthera Colombia to provide creative, field production, and post-production services.
